The price of defending your property

I recently read about an Arizona property owner, who has been doing the government's work for them. Basically, his ranch sits adjacent to the border near Douglas, AZ. For years, illegals have been using his land as a conduit to the U.S. while littering, damaging his property, and killing his cattle by leaving behind rubbish.
Here is the article. Please read it. It's quick.

So, while the Border Patrol was asleep at the wheel, this gentleman, Roger Barnett said in no uncertain terms, "If they won't do anything about this, then I will."

So he did.

He installed sensors all along his property, and began patrolling at night. He went out armed to the teeth with American made weapons and a big dog. He estimates that since he began defending his property aggressively in 1998, that he's turned over 12,000 illegal foreigners to the Border Patrol. 12,000!!!

The reason I'm writing about this is not because of how cool this guy is, but because now, some of these illegals have decided to sue Mr. Barnett.

How ludicrous is this?

Ludicrous enough that some activist judge or sympathetic jury could rule in favor of these lawbreakers. Stranger things have happened. We all know stories of frivolous lawsuits that have won scumbags money. People sue over anything these days, and because some of them actually win, this encourages more to try.

These foreign nationals have enlisted the help of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), (which is nothing more than Mexican ACLU). They aid lawbreakers and foreign nationals in skirting the laws and customs of the United States. These guys have a long, long list of donors too (because I suppose they'd be racists for not supporting them...).

In this case, 16 men and women (just like the pictures you see here, which are actual trespassers on Barnett's land), along with this organization are suing Mr. Barnett for $32 million dollars stemming from an incident in 2004 when he held these individuals at gunpoint while they trespassed on his land.

This is just so disgusting to me that someone can even file something like this. You know, I would do the same thing if I were this guy. It's my land, I've worked hard to get where I am, and if the government won't protect it, than I will. It's as simple as that.

Organizations that work tirelessly to aid and abet illegals see Barnett and people like him as goldmines and a means to an end. If they win a big lawsuit against someone like Barnett, folks like him will be less apt to round up these lawbreakers. It would also, of course, bankrupt him, which is icing on the cake for these people; this is a personal attack. Also, if successful, this lawsuit will set a very scary precedent. It's a triple whammy.

I certainly hope all works out for this guy. If anything, he owes them 32 cents and a swift kick in the ass with a size 12 cowboy boot.

I don't care if I sound like a jerk, this story is ridiculous and horrible. It is not a civil right to live in the United States of America. It is a privilege.

I realize people come here for the work and they work hard. Trust me, I know. But if you're not here legally, you're a lawbreaker, and you have no rights-- especially the right to sue someone whose land you trespassed on.

It's not gray, and it's perfect common sense.
