Random Thoughts and Brilliant Points
Hey Folks,
I can't really think of anything in particular I'd like to write about. Therefore, I'm just going to cover a bunch of random topics in no particular order.
Topic 1: Wow, Hillary blew it
Right when she was making a comeback due to Barack's racist, anti-American mentor, she tries to portray herself like some kind of Balkan war hero, dodging bullets. Yeah Hillary... landing amidst sniper fire. You've never even walked down the streets of D.C. or Baltimore in broad daylight, you fraud.
Thanks a lot. I was really hoping you could beat Obama, so McCain could thrash you with a healthy dose of logic, experience, and masculinity. Now, thanks to you and your hallucinatory storytelling and severe embellishment, we've got the "People's Champion" on his was to recovering from a potentially devastating blow. His legion of uninformed, inexperienced, and delusional fans will continue his shitstorm on to the nomination. God help us all.
Seriously, I think Barack's fans are the reason we should be scared. Of course, he probably has a decent amount of moderates and sheep who "want a change." But the biggest problem is that the following people are all about him:
1) White people who will vote for him simply because he is black
2) Black people who will vote for him simply because he is black
3) First time voters-- kids just turning 18, kids on radically liberal college campuses who don't know any better and are influenced by professors and flyers
4) Radical leftists like Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan, etc.
5) People who will vote for anyone but a Republican without examining the true ramifications of electing such an individual
I work with a woman who will be the first to admit she is very liberal. She is an Obama supporter, and is one of the people who call George Dubya an "idiot", and are for the immediate withdrawal of soldiers from Iraq, gay rights, etc.
She called Hillary Clinton a "terrible bitch", and told me that if she gets the nomination, she wouldn't vote for the first time in her life or even vote for John McCain! I'm not making this up.
This is the one thing that the rational world can hope for. The only sniping going on around Hillary are the volleys of insults going back and forth between her and Barack. On top of it, I've heard that as high as 15-20% of Democrats will do the same if their candidate doesn't get the nomination. Is that unbelievable or what? I hope that's true and not just emotionally hollow threats by a very unstable and fractured voting base.
Hollow threats or not, the Democrats are screwed up. There are just so many factions of them. With Republicans, you've got the Religious Conservatives (or the Christian Right as the leftists call them), you've got traditionalists/moderates, and then you've got Reagan Conservatives. However they'd like to differentiate themselves, they all share common goals: promote and sustain American superiority throughout the world, promote and sustain our traditional language, borders, and culture, and to promote and sustain economic independence and prosperity.
"Thank you very much, and may God bless America!"
Whereas the liberals are all over the place. You've got blue-collar union men who don't care as much about social issues, environmentalists, radical foreigners/ foreigner's rights advocates, anti-war loons, anti-Republican loons, gay rights advocates, city folk in general, young students who think it's cool to be liberal and don't understand how the world works, and of course there are the people who think everything America does and everything we've done-- as well as how we've done it is wrong, and we need change.
"YES WE CAN!"
No. Ya can't.
Not with all those different groups of people and 2 inexperienced candidates to choose from.
I just laugh out loud when I hear Democratic pundits/endorsers say "Obama is the one who can bridge racial and political divides, and bring the country together."
"Why? Because he's bi-racial?" I ask, looking to start a fight.
"No, because he's positive, and idealistic," the liberal replies.
And I retort smartly, "Well it's easy to be positive and idealistic when you're totally clueless as to how the world really works and don't know what you're getting into!"
To which the liberal replies, "He's not clueless! Shut up! YES WE CAN!"

Yeah, sure he's not clueless. The guy so clueless, he thinks Moby Dick is a venereal disease. (That was from Wedding Crashers). And I bet he can't name all the countries in Europe off the top of his head like I did in class. That's right. I wrote them all down and then checked a map. I got all of them except Slovenia. I even got Moldova and Bosnia/Herzegovina. Beat that Barack!

Ah, I love winning fictional arguments. But the point really is, the guy is clueless, and if he (God forbid) gets elected, he'll sit down for his first day of briefings, listen to 15 minutes of confirmed terror threats and international geopolitical maneuvers. Then he'll rub his temples, exhale loudly, and say, "Holy shit. What have I gotten myself into."
Topic 2: Hollywood gets offensive
If you haven't seen the commercials, there is a movie opening on Friday that greatly offends me. I'm not going to give it the decency or promotion of naming it, but the fact that it was made is truly disgraceful
It is a movie about a group of young servicemen who all get called to duty to Iraq for a second time. Apparently, they weren't supposed to have to do another tour, and feel betrayed by the Army.
Unfortunately, I don't think this story is made up. There are probably a lot of similar stories out there about unexpected redeployments, extended tours, etc. This isn't right, but it's a reality.
For a movie to be made during wartime about this subject under the guise of entertainment is appalling, and should not be tolerated by the public. Let's think about this for a second...
We just had the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. It takes about 2 to 2.5 years for a movie to go from idea to theater screen. That means that the jerks over at MTV Films had this idea sometime in 2005, when the war was only 2 or 3 years old, then filmed it while our boys were getting attacked by Islamic fascists and blown up on a daily basis.
Am I the only one who thinks this is heinous?
Shame on everyone involved in that project and anyone who goes to see it.
There's a difference between telling a story that needs to be told, and to blatantly making anti-military propaganda films and selling it a public already wary of the Iraqi conflict. It really is shameful.
Topic 3: American Idol
Rocker David Cook
So, a few minutes ago, Chikezie got voted off. Kinda crazy. The guy was really good and quite versatile. But, when there are only 9 contestants left, they're all pretty good and they all get voted off but one.
And just so you know, I do enjoy American Idol, and I don't give a crap what you think. I guess I fancy myself as a music critic and talent evaluator. It's a good show, and I appreciate the talent and abilities of people who can walk off the street and do what they do on Idol. They go from singing in the shower to singing successfully in front of millions of television viewers.
That being said, remember the name David Cook. That guy is damn good. He's a creative rocker with great stage skills, a very good voice, and a feel for what it's all about. He'll be the next Chris Daughtry-- except he'll actually win.
The guy did an acoustic rock version of Billie Jean yesterday, and it was amazing. The guy is just solid. Plus, you've gotta respect a guy who represents his hometown well by wearing a Kansas City Royals hat during casual offstage footage.
PS: Tony Kornheiser predicted the Chikezie would be voted off today on Pardon the Interruption. Prophet? Maybe.

Topic 4: NBA Musings
First of all, good riddance to Chris Webber. The guy didn't help the Warriors at all, and I bet he came back just for the paycheck and attention. No way he thought he could actually play at a high level for 30 games. He screwed us once, and he almost screwed us again. Unacceptable. I'm glad he retired. Good for him.
And to any Warrior fans out there, how disturbing was the end of the second Warrior-Laker game the other night. Derek Fisher and Bob Delaney together ruined our chances to win the game. You hate to have the officials decide the game, and if you look at the bigger picture, obscenely bad calls like Delaney's could determine whether the Warriors make the playoffs.

I'll be the first to admit that Bob Fitzgerald and Jim Barnett are homers, but Derek Fisher pulled down Monta. Terrible, unbelievable call.
Okay, so other than that, The Dubs have some really tough games ahead, and are only a 1/2 game ahead of Denver for the 8th playoff spot. Luckily, Dallas is free falling and Dirk Nowitzki is out for 2 weeks.
Here are the Warriors' remaining games: Portland, @ Denver, Dallas, @ San Antonio, @ Dallas, @ Memphis, @ New Orleans, Sacramento, Denver, LA Clippers, @ Phoenix, Seattle.
Whew, that's brutal just looking at it. It's gonna come down to the head to head games against Denver and Dallas. If we can somehow win 3 out of those 4 and take care of Sacto, the Clippers, Memphis, and Seattle, we'll be cool.
Topic 5: March Madness
It's been pretty maddening alright. But not so much to me. I promised myself I wouldn't gamble at all on March Madness, and thank God I haven't, because I probably would have pulled out several clumps of hair from my scalp. These games have been awfully close, and there have been some crazy upsets. I mean, do we even know where Davidson is?
Well in case you don't. They're in the Sweet Sixteen, and here is the little "about" from their website:
Dude, they have only 1,700 students! The total student body, all the faculty, and alumni from the last 15 years combined couldn't even fill all the seats at Raleigh's RBC Center where they've done their unexpected damage. That's some serious underdog shit!
And kudos to CBS for getting it right. They have all the games on their website live, streaming, and in very high quality. They even cared enough to create a "boss button". When you click on it, a nonsense Excel spreadsheet pops up, to make it look like you're at least looking at something slightly related to your job. It was great last weekend. I was switching back and forth between all the games, checking my bracket, and doing my job all at once! Great scene, and thank you CBS!
Uh, yeah, I am doing my work! Check out this bitchin' spreadsheet I'm workin' on!
Which makes me wonder... why aren't all nationally televised sporting events streaming on the networks' websites? People are getting them free "technically" on TV, so why not get some sponsors and throw the games on their website? Hmmm...
And by the way, all of my Elite 8 teams are still alive except for Duke. Sooo things aren't that bad.
